A Cultural Landmark
in Kisii
Born from a vision of heritage, hospitality, and harmony with the Gusii hills.

Born from a vision of heritage, hospitality, and harmony with the Gusii hills.
The Humphreys Hill House was conceived during the quietest period the world has ever known — the COVID lockdowns of 2020. While the world stood still, our founder saw in the silence of the Kisii hills not emptiness, but possibility. A chance to build something that was never just about profit, but about permanence.
The architecture was deliberately fragmented — a collection of intimate pods, pavilions, and alcoves carved into the natural hillside so that no single guest would ever feel part of a crowd. Every corner was designed as a discovery. Every view, a reward for those willing to seek it.
When we opened our doors, Kisii had never seen anything quite like it. And that was exactly the point.
Every decision we make — from architecture to menus to hiring — is guided by these founding principles.
We are a cultural boutique hotel — rooted in Ubuntu, celebrating Omogusii art, music, food, and heritage at every touchpoint.
Our fragmented social pods preserve the hillside while creating intimate moments. Architecture that breathes with the land, not against it.
100% solar powered. Rainwater harvested. Garden-to-table. Luxury and ecological responsibility working as one.
We employ from Kisii County, source from local farms, celebrate local artisans. Our growth only means something when the community grows with us.
Luxury means precision — not excess. A handwritten note, a perfectly timed meal on a hillside. Small moments, perfectly crafted.
Smart room TVs, AI concierge, Starlink internet, real-time booking — ancient culture meeting the best of modern technology.
From the moment you arrive, you are greeted not by a reception desk, but by a garden of art. Over 300 soapstone works are installed throughout our grounds, corridors, and sculpture garden.
Carved by Kisii master artisans who have practised their craft for generations, each piece is an act of cultural preservation as much as artistic expression.
